Rochdale Online Alliance League round-up

Date published: 18 May 2011

Attention centered solely on both ends of the Matterson Cranes Divison 1 table as the ROAFL season ended either side of Cup Final weekend.

Would Weavers 2nds or Whitworth Valley 2nds finally clinch the runners up spot behind champions Jacks House, even though neither can gain promotion under the current regulations, and which two from Rochdale Sacred Heart, Sudden Carling, Waggon Athletic and Hargreaves would end an intriguing season in the relegation places?

Last Wednesday evening RSH kept the relegation cauldron boiling with a 3-0 home victory over Hargreaves, a win that gave them more than a glimmer of hope of the great escape, and on Saturday they completed that very escape with a stunning 4-1 victory over Weavers 2nds, providing Hargreaves couldn’t produce a similar scoreline in the final league game of the season at Valley 2nds, who themselves needed a point for second place.

Disappointingly, both issues were settled by a failed fixture as Hargreaves failed to keep their appointment at Rawstron Street, thus sending them down into Division 2 on the back of no less than eight consecutive league defeats, whilst Valley 2nds add second place to their Alletson & Mitchell Memorial Trophy triumph!

Sudden Carling’s 2-1 defeat at Peels Arms means they finish three points adrift at the foot of the table but cannot be relegated under the league rules and so Waggon Athletic will join Hargreaves in the second division for 2011-12.
