Greenfield 87-2 - Bamford-Fieldhouse 88-6

Bamford-Fieldhouse Junior Cricket
On a cool Easter Monday evening, Greenfield won the toss and decided to bat. Bamford's opening bowlers Ahmed Nawaz and Callum Belfield bowled quickly and accurately and Nawaz removed one of the openers for 1 but from then on the batters proved very difficult to dislodge. The next wicket fell in the last over with the home team on 86 when the pace of Nawaz beat Sturge who had scored 19. Opener Higgins ended up not out with 41 hard earned runs.
The Bamford openers, Nawaz and Joe Mitchell got off to a flyer and with Nawaz taking 20 off one over the visitors were 25 without loss after 3 overs. The introduction of Sturge put the brakes on as the wickets began to fall and Bamford found themselves at 67-6. In the end Belfield and Humza Malik were both not out and saw Bamford home with a partnership of 21.
This was a typical early season match where both sides looked a little “rusty” with a number of regular players missing. It was pleasing to see 6 of last year’s u13s in the Bamford team and they all showed up well. A special mention should be made of Sturge from Greenfield who scored 19 and then returned superb bowling figures of 4 wickets for 5 runs.
