Rochdalians win premier cricket league

Rochdalians won the Rochdale Premier Cricket League with 32 points by getting a bye for their match against Unique on the last day of the league.

Speed Stars came second with 31 points due to getting bye in play off match against 8 Stars.

8 Stars claimed the third position.

The first match of the day was between RYCC and Paradise Stars. RYCC batted first and made 146 runs in their 8 overs. Excellent batting from Quyyom 56 runs and Bilal 34 runs (not out). In response Paradise Stars made 104 runs in their 8 overs and lost the match by 42 runs. Good bowling from Bilal taking 3 wickets for 28 runs and Tayab 2 wickets for 4 runs.

In the second match of the day Speed Stars won against Rochdale Lions with an ease. Speed Stars batted first and made 126 runs in their 8 overs. Excellent batting from Rauf 28 runs, Wasim 25 runs (not out) and Saif 23 runs. Not a good start from Rochdale Lions and lost the match by 64 runs. Apart from Dastghir 11 runs, none of the other batsmen contributed much to the total. With this win Speed Stars claimed the second place in the league.

In the other matches of the day Unique and Thornham CC failed to turn up and gave away 2 easy points to Rochdalians and 8 Stars respectively. With two points Rochdalians became the league champions with 32 points.

Congratulations to the Rochdalians for winning the Rochdale Premier Cricket League this year.

A spokesperson for the league said: “This has been a fantastic league and very well organised and competitive league. It was very good learning experience for all the young players to play along side senior players. They also praised the organisers Abdul Quyyom, Mohammed Siddique, Tayab and Haji Zafar for all their hard work and very well organised league. They will come back again next season and face the challenge.”

RSCL committee members thanked all the players and spectators for taking part in the league and supporting their teams every week. All the teams were invited again to take part in the next years indoor league.

The presentation Ceremony will be held on 10th of April in Roti Restaurant at 6.30pm. Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk will be presenting cups and trophies to all the winners and runners up.
