Rochdale high schools rugby league gathers momentum

Date published: 15 March 2011

Wednesday (9 March 2011) saw the second round of the Rochdale High Schools Competition held at Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC.

The competition was rescheduled from before the school holidays which had to be cancelled due to the playing fields being waterlogged.

The weather managed to hold out and the competition went ahead with 10 teams representing 6 schools, took to the field and showcased some excellent Rugby League.

The games were end to end action with all players showing why their schools had selected the represent them at this competition. Rochdale Service Area Player development coaches were all in attendance and from what they saw and from the feedback received, they were some pretty impressive skills on show from all involved.

A massive positive from the competition were the involvement and skills on show from the new schools such as Siddal Moor, Middleton technology College and St Anne’s Academy, which complimented the skills on show from the recognised schools, such as St Cuthbert’s, Matthew Moss and Hollingworth.

The next festival is due to take place on the 6 April at Milnrow Cobra’s, (Firgrove Playing Fields) with the final due to take place at Spotland Stadium in June. The winner of the final will progress as Rochdale’s entrant in the 2011/12 Carngie Champion Schools Competition.
