U14s: Rylands 8 - 24 Mayfield

Date published: 07 March 2011

Mayfield overcame third placed Ryland's in this premiership clash.

The lads produced their best display of the season in this solid all round team performance.

Rylands opened the scoring when their hooker dived in from the dummy half on the last tackle.

This stirred Mayfield into action and they replied from inside their own half through a solo effort from Kevin Wetshokonda.

The visitors had focused hard on defence in training since the winter break and this was evident as Ryland's were met by some crunching tackles.

Wetshokonda, back from a broken ankle, inspired Mayfield on the day as he grabbed two more tries before the break after some flowing attacking Rugby.

Mayfield did lose their concentration again on their goal line for the impressive opposition hooker to dart in before the break.

In the second half Mayfield carried out their half time promise and kept the home team scoreless.

Joel Pearson sealed the game when hit onto a short ball at full pace and dived in by the side of the post.

Jack Higginson converted all the tries to make the final score Rylands
8 Mayfield 24.

Post match awards went to Man of the Match Kevin Wetshokonda, Coach Award Connor McCondochie and Man of steel Arnold Dube.

As part of ongoing team building activities and a reward for this performance the lads are being treated to a Pool competition at a local snooker hall.
