Rochdale Online Alliance League round-up

Date published: 02 March 2011

A very good day for Weavers 2nds in the Matterson Cranes Division 1 as both leaders Jacks House and Whitworth Valley 2nds lost ground in the title race as a result of draws against bottom three clubs in Rochdale Sacred Heart and Wardle 2nds respectively.

Goals from Holt (2), Coleman and Allatt gave bottom club Rochdale Sacred Heart the result of the day in a thrilling 4-4 draw at Firgrove against unbeaten leaders Jacks House but Valley 2nds failed to take advantage as Worrall, Howarth and Tait scored the goals that earned Wardle 2nds a valuable point in their battle against relegation.

Sudden Carling dropped into the bottom two after losing 3-2 at Hargreaves ; Pickering, Worsley and Ghassami on the mark for the winners there and in the division’s other game Castleton 2nds were comfortable victors over a sliding Waggon Athletic outfit.

Four away wins in four games in the Matthew Montgomery & Co Division 2 as both Sun Hotel and Balderstone moved to within touching distance of out of action leaders Syke 2nds. Balderstone were predictable 3-0 winners at Woodbank but a few eyebrows may be raised at the margin of Sun’s win at Jacks House 2nds – Johnson (3), White (2), Douglas and Culshaw the scorers.

Sudden Carling continued their rapid rise up the table with a thumping win over Horse & Farrier who are marooned at the foot of the table alongside Rochdale Asia 2nds, beaten 4-2 at home by Wardle 3rds.

The only game played in the Concept Filter Products Premier Division saw Weavers edge out Roca Juniors by the odd goal in five at Matthew Moss 3G and both clubs will have more than a passing interest in the outcome of the disciplinary hearing for leaders Castleton’s abandoned game with Asia the previous week.

Before then there is an interesting meeting this weekend as first play fourth at Matthew Moss 3G and while there may be a sixteen point gap between the sides Syke do have three games in hand on Castleton. No less interest at Hopwood Hall as Asia meet Weavers as defeat for the home side will almost certainly doom them to relegation.

In Division 1 Jacks House will be looking to get back to winning ways against Peels Arms at Walsden Rec while a win for Balderstone in Division 2 at leaders Syke 2nds would see them join Syke on twenty four points allowing both Wardle 3rds and Fothergill & Whittles 2nds to go past them both with victories! And don’t rule Sun Hotel, Sudden Carling 2nds or AFC Royton out of the promotion reckoning just yet either.

In the President’s Cup Roca will be hoping for good weather and Sun Hotel for some divine intervention against in form Wardle at Whittle Park whilst in the Alletson & Mitchell Memorial Trophy all three games appear too close to call on paper.
