Hornets were soundly beaten by Widnes Vikings in the Northern Rail Cup at the Stobart Stadium, Halton.

Hornets put in a credible first half performance but were overwhelmed by Widnes in the second half.

The scoring was opened by Vikings hooker Kirk Netherton but Hornets were quick to hit back with a try from Ashall, converted by Crook.

Steve Tyrer gave Vikings the lead and Danny Craven increased the lead to 18 – 6 by the 20 minute point.

Hornets refused to lie down and Craig Johnson pulled four points back.

However, that was as good as it got for Hornets; the Vikings scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to record a 50-10 victory.
