Mayfield preview

Date published: 19 February 2011

Following the defeats suffered by both teams last week the Mayfield camp will be looking for a change of fortune today (Saturday 19 February 2011).

This will be easier said than done as the first team travel to Wigan where they face the toughest of tests at Ince Rose Bridge.

Ince have an identical record this season having played twelve won eight lost four. So this, on paper is two very evenly matched teams with all to play for.

Mayfield should only be missing Ben Butterworth from last weeks team after he suffered a bad dislocation of his shoulder against Siddal. The rest of the squad have looked fit and well in training this week as they have attempted to put the disappointment of defeat behind them, also the dependable Steve Wood returns after missing the challenge cup through work commitments.

A club spokesperson said: “There were a lot of positives from the game and we have focused on them rather than highlight our failings, we came out a bit flat in the second half so we have worked on keeping our concentration for the full eighty said the coaches. The loss of our half back Ben Butterworth affected us and that’s something we can’t allow to happen we have to perform with the players available and that’s what we’ll be doing today.”

Like the first team the NWC side have to try and pick themselves up after defeat.

Unfortunately they have to travel to Hindley who are the side that inflicted that defeat.

Coaches Ashworth and Connelly were pleased with the reaction from the team after last week’s reverse and the way they are relishing the return fixture. Hindley played to their capacity were we know that we didn’t and there is more to come from us, hopefully this will be achieved today.

The spokesperson added: “There will be a real push for places with players returning today so team selection will be tough but as always we will select what we believe to be the right seventeen for the job.”

Fixtures:
Nat Con div 1: Ince Rose Bridge v Mayfield ko 2.30pm
