After a long lay off due to the weather the FA Cup game was on.
Middleton were under no illusion that this was going to be a tough task from the start, both teams went on the attack with Middleton having the best chances with Chelsea going close on 3 attempts.
The break through came for Whitley when from a corner Middleton failed to clear and in the confusion the ball fell at a Whitley Bay player who managed to hit home.
This did not stop Middleton going forward and they got their reward when Shevy was sent flying in the box and Scouse slotted home the penalty.
With half time approaching Whitley pumped a long ball forward and with a bit of luck it fell nice for one of their players who managed to hit home.
Half time 2-1.
In the second half Middleton pushed forward at every chance but attempts by Sam, Twinny, Vic, Shevy, Channy and Chelsea all failed to find the net.
In the end Whitley Bay found themselves hanging on for the win.
A spokesperson for Middleton Athletic, said: “Before the game started we asked the team to go on the pitch, give 100 per cent and don't come off with any regrets and after that performance we got everything and more also we would like to say a big thanks to the 12 players and loyal fans who made this day memorable.”
