Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC

Date published: 05 November 2010

Rochdale Mayfield entertains Castleford Panthers at the Mayfield sports centre tomorrow (6 November).

Last week’s big win against Cumbrians Millom was especially satisfying for the coaching staff, as it was achieved without four regular first team players. The lads who stepped up to take their places all acquitted themselves admirably, with Paul Hancock and Kristian Duffy catching the eye. This was all the more pleasing as they are both graduates of the Mayfield youth set up. Impressive new signing Saqib Murtza and powerful prop Ben Simpson are both available tomorrow, so coach Butterworth has some tough decisions to make before naming his squad.

Panthers travel to Rochdale on the back of some decent results lately, beating Stanningley 38-12 last week. They will be full of confidence and wanting to take the two points on offer.

Mayfield are quietly confident of extending their winning run. Butterworth commented: “You can’t take anything for granted at this level of rugby, but we are playing some fantastic stuff at the moment, and, with the players we have waiting to come back, we can only get better. I’ve always known we had it in us to produce these kind of displays and in recent weeks, it’s all just clicked into place. We are now climbing the table and looking towards those promotion places, but like I said you can take nothing for granted’.

Match sponsors in the Zone tomorrow with Ace Electrical, Turnstone Developments, William Murphy and Sons and Hopwood Hall Lecturers. Match ball sponsor is again Unique sports.

All players meet at club as per pre match text.

Mayfield NWC are also at home tomorrow against bottom club New Spring Lions from Wigan. The second team have recaptured their early season form and are playing some excellent rugby, with the likes of Biggins, Todd, Abrahams and Ellis all producing the goods.

Coaches Ashworth and Connelly will be hoping the Wiganers will not be a banana skin tomorrow; there is too much quality in the side for that to happen. With good numbers attending training, and discipline and attitude on the pitch improving each week, the management team are pleased at stage of the season and look forward to another good performance and two more points.

All players meet as per pre match text.
