Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC

Date published: 15 October 2010

Rochdale Mayfield play hosts to Stannigley of Leeds tomorrow (16 October), at the Mayfield Sports Centre.

Both sides have had a rather uninspiring start to the season, having played five and won only one of their opening fixtures, so two points tomorrow would mean a great deal to both teams and hopefully kick-start the season for the victors.

Mayfield are still without Maroney, who has not yet recovered from the torn bicep he received a couple of weeks ago, but in Ben Simpson they probably have the form forward in the division. He will be ably backed by the likes of Brett, Atkinson, Gleeson and hopefully the return of Corcoran, along with the all-action Todd O’Brien.

Not forgetting the backs, who despite the results, have at times looked impressive this season, with Kershaw, Nuamatula and Foy all in decent form.

The team are working hard on the training pitch, and are very keen to put things right where it matters, on the pitch. Sponsors for tomorrow’s game in the zone with Ace Electrical are, Recruitment Solutions, Hannan Electrical and Darren Warne Joinery. Players meet at club as per pre match text.

After their outstanding start to the season, the NWC side have seen a reversal in fortunes over the last three weeks, losing games which were definitely there to be won. Last week’s outing was typical of this, when they went down 19 points to 6 at home to a very ordinary West Bank of Widnes.

Pirouzan scored Mayfields only try in a game, which once more was littered with penalties and lost possession.

Tomorrow’s opponents are Thatto Heath of St Helens, who for some reason have only played twice so far this season and as such are something of an unknown quantity.
Ashworth is hoping to welcome back a couple of players tomorrow who have been out through injury, with Hancock and Biggins pushing for places, along with players stepping back down from the first team after deputizing for injuries and work commitments last week.

With such a strong squad, the pressure is on for the players to show their desire and fight hard for their shirts, both at training and on the pitch. Players meet as per pre match text.

Fixtures;
Nat Con div 1, Mayfield v Stanningley KO 2.30
NWC div 4, Thatto Heath v Mayfield KO 2.30
