Mayfield Preview

Date published: 01 October 2010

Stanley Rangers of Wakefield are the visitors to the Mayfield Sports Centre tomorrow (Saturday 2 October). Like Mayfield Rangers, they have had a patchy start to the season, having played four and won two. Last week, they beat basement club Stanningley, while Mayfield went down at table topping Oulton.

Both teams today will be looking for improvements on the field to try and get among the league leaders. Mayfield are without the services of the powerful second rower Andrew Maroney, who sustained a torn bicep in the Oulton game. Damien Gibson should once again be pulling on the blue and white shirt to lend his skill and experience on the field.

The coaches weren’t too downbeat after last weeks defeat. There were a lot of positives to come from the performance, with O’Brien once again in the thick of everything, and Simpson, Robinson and Atkinson hitting a rich vein of form.

Confidence at training is running high and the squad is looking forward to the challenge presented by Stanley Rangers tomorrow. The game will kick off at 2 o’clock, to accommodate the grand final at old Trafford.

The guests in THE ZONE with Zone One Electrical are, Ace Electrical, Rentruck and Hopwood Hall College Lecturers.

The North West Counties side make the short journey to the Oldham Hills, where they face Saddleworth Rangers. Saddleworth are occupying third spot in the league with Mayfield retaining second, despite last weeks disappointing home defeat to Rochdale Cobra’s.

Games against Oldham sides have always had that extra bit spice and tomorrow’s outing should be no, different with Mayfield looking to get back to winning ways.

Saddleworth will have different ideas, after narrowly losing out to highflying Hindley in their last outing, so a cracking all-action game of rugby league is on the cards.

Mayfield will be hoping to welcome back Carl Abrahams after work commitments kept him away, but have lost Paul Lane with a broken wrist. With Biggins, Howard, and Snape all hitting form, and Todd bossing his forwards around the pitch, Ashworth is confident of a good performance from his charges and hopeful of a return to winning ways.

As with first team, there will be an early kick off so players are asked to meet at 12.

Fixtures:
