Mayfield geared up for Rhinos clash

Date published: 17 September 2010

Mayfield 2nds are in a confident mood as they prepare to take on Caddishead Rhinos tomorrow (Saturday 18 September).

The team have won their opening two games and will be boosted by the support of members of the first team attending the match after their game with Thornhill Trojans had to be cancelled.

Coach Leon Ashworth believes that the spirit of the team has been instrumental in their success and is hoping it will continue this weekend.

He said: “It’s not just the fact that we won the games it’s the manner in which we won them. The lads have shown an awful lot of character in the first two outings and are keen to carry this through into this week’s fixture.

“The leadership on the part of captain Mark Biggins has been inspirational and everyone has lifted their game to follow the example he is setting. That said though we are no one man team with the likes of Dave Ellis, Andy Lee, Paul Hancock and Carl Abrams on the field anything can happen. Add to this mix the old stagers who have been coming off the bench and you have a very good rugby league side who fear no one.”

Ashworth’s preparations have been hampered by the news that hooker Paul Hancock is out with a suspected broken hand, but otherwise the Mayfield coach has a full squad to choose from for the clash.

The Rhinos have a good home record but were on the wrong end of a fifty point drubbing at in form Hindley last week and are looking to make amends.
