Stayley 83-8 Bamford-Fieldhouse U15s 86-2 (Home)

Date published: 10 August 2010

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Stayley were 18-3 from five overs with Ibbi Alam getting 2-6, one of them a great catch by keeper Ben Garside.

Matt Buckley and Joseph Mitchell continued the wicket taking but were unable to dislodge Woodhead who ended the innings unbeaten on 37. He had some great support from some very young batsmen who showed a lot of courage against older players.

For the first time this season, Bamford spread the bowling around and all the outfield players got two overs although this did lead to over twenty bowling extras being conceded.

Bamford opener Garside went in the second over and Buckley he was joined by Callum Openshaw. After a brisk start, the scoring slowed du to some tight bowling. The batsmen responded with some good running between the wickets to keep the score moving.

When Buckley went for nine, the score on 38-2, Bamford had dropped behind the rate but Ibbi Alam added a new impetus to the innings. Although boundaries were hard to come by the run-rate began to increase and Bamford won by 8 wickets with 13 balls to spare. Openshaw ended with 40 and Alam got a very important 23.

Woodhead capped a good game, taking 1-14 from his 3 overs. Credit must be given to Stayley who played the game with great spirit and the fielding of their youngsters in particular, was excellent.
