Bamford won the toss and elected to bat, but found themselves two wickets down after only three balls with Tesz removing Alex Willis and Danny Matthews without scoring. The next over saw Ben Garside dismissed by Gray for 1, with the score on 5 runs for 3 wickets.
Adam Ahmed joined Joe Smith-Butler and they repaired the early damage putting on 35 in three overs. Smith-Butler was the main aggressor and retired on 32 with the team score on 40. Charlie Lloyd-Jones was next in and he and Ahmed put on a further 37 before Ahmed was bowled by Casey with the team total on 77-4.
Lloyd-Jones retired soon after, making his first ever 30 not out including two 6’s and four 4’s. Adam Deaville and Oliver Bonynge then put on 40 runs in five overs with both batsmen finding the boundary at regular intervals.
When Bonynge was dismissed for 12, Connor Wright and Deaville continued the good work putting on another 19 before Deaville retired with an excellent 32 including seven 4’s. Bamford’s innings closed on 138 in the nineteenth over, which was a fine effort recovering from the early collapse.
Bamford opened the bowling with the contrasting styles of the pacey Smith-Butler and the leg spin of Ahmed. This proved to be a great tactical move as they took a wicket apiece, removing both of the Royton openers. Ahmed took a further two wickets, Willis and Matthews chipped in with a wicket each leaving the visitors struggling on 52–6.
Snape and Casey then led a fight back, putting on a 45 in under five overs until Snape retired on 30 not out. The Royton tail wagged but came up eighteen runs short finishing on 120 all out.
This was Bamford’s toughest test to date and the team showed great character in coming through it to keep their unbeaten record intact.
