Weavers double trouble for Harlequin
Date published: 15 May 2010
Weavers 5 - 1 Harlequin
A W Trippier Cup Final
Weavers completed the double by adding the A W Trippier Cup to the B K C Trophies Premier Division title with a consummate win over Harlequin.
Harlequin opened the scoring though Andrew Simpson after 25 minutes but it proved to be a false dawn as just minutes later Weavers were level when Nick Hands beat the offside trap and Harlequin keeper Wayne Ankers with superb composure.
Before half time Weavers had added two more, Lee Bradley’s pace proving too much for the Harlequin defence on both occasions and as with Hand’s goal, he took both with aplomb.
The second half began pretty much as the first had finished, Weavers controlling the midfield with Nick Hodson particularly commanding.
It seemed only a matter of time before Weavers would add to their tally and kill the game as a contest and sure enough within ten minutes of the restart Sam Butterworth made it four one to Weavers.
Harlequin did not lack effort but were simply outclassed; when they did break forward the Weavers defence was resolute leaving keeper Ivan Bargh with little to do.
Midway through the second half Lee Bradley completed his hat-trick, a quick ball out of defence caught Harlequin napping and Hand made no mistake giving Ankers in the Harlequin goal no chance.
