Date published: 13 May 2010
Rochdale Mayfield Sports Centre is set in the heart of Castleton with the rolling Pennine hills as its backdrop. Predominately a rugby league club Mayfield does, however, play host to the Rochdale Town football team and, from next season, the Middleton Ladies football team will also call Mayfield home.
Mayfield operate a total of ten rugby league teams and are looking to expand this with expansion of the girls section.
There are two open age teams with the first team playing in the National Conference Division One one and the second string playing in the North West Counties Division Four.
The eight youth teams all operate in the North West counties youth leagues, and the girls, although not in a league as such, will play their competitive games at various festivals.
Last year saw the club make massive strides off the pitch, achieving clubmark gold standard and also coming runner up out of over 150,000 sports clubs around the country in the national sports club of the year award. This also rated Rochdale Mayfield as the best rugby league club in the country. Also this year the club was awarded the Rochdale Link4life springboard gold.
A spokesman for the club said: "All in all it has been a fantastic year for the club under the guidance of new club chairman Simon Howe and his committee and next year promises to be even better both on and off the field.
"If you want to be part of a thriving friendly family club, Mayfield is the place to be whether its in a playing capacity or a behind the scenes role you will be more than welcome to come and join us."
