Hornets claim world record try

Date published: 11 May 2010

Rochdale Hornet's opening try during their win against Swinton on Sunday, officially timed at 7.9 seconds, has been confirmed as the quickest ever rugby league try.

Hornets kicked off in their 33-22 win, and hesitancy in the Lions defence resulted in the ball bouncing kindly for second rower Danny Samuel.

The try beats the previous record of nine seconds set by Australian side Wentworthville in a NSW Cup match against Newton at Henson Park last year.
