Rochdale to have civic reception after promotion success

Date published: 23 April 2010

Rochdale Football Club’s squad will attend a civic reception at the town hall on Sunday 9 May following their promotion to League One.

The reception, staged by Rochdale Borough Council, will commence with an open top bus tour from Spotland Stadium towards the Esplanade in the town centre.

Final preparations are underway and further details will be available shortly.

The open top bus tour is expected to leave Spotland at approximately 1.30 pm, arriving at the town hall by 2pm.

The Mayor Councillor Keith Swift said it has been a fabulous season and a wonderful achievement.

He said: “It’s been an exceptional year for Rochdale Football Club, seeing them at the top of the league virtually all season; and it’s only right that the council recognises their achievement.

“It means a lot to all the loyal supporters to achieve promotion and I think that it should be marked with a special celebration.

“The manager, players and everyone connected with the club have worked so hard this season so we’re delighted to help them celebrate their thoroughly deserved success.”

Players, officials and guests from Rochdale Football Club will attend the reception at the Great Hall.

At approximately 2.15pm the team is due to appear on the balcony alongside the Mayor to toast their success.
