Milnrow Cobras Springboard to Gold!

Date published: 12 April 2010

Milnrow Cobras have become the second rugby league club in Rochdale to be awarded the prestigious Clubmark Gold award from the RFL. In addition, the club has also been awarded Springboard Gold status, highlighting them as one of Rochdale Boroughs high quality community clubs.

Both awards are only given to clubs who can meet stringent criteria, including CRB checking all volunteers, qualifying coaches to a high level and being a club open and accessible to all.

The Cobras were hosted as part of the record crowd at Spotland as Hornets entertained Oldham Roughyeds on Good Friday.

Ryan Bradley, Rochdale Rugby League Development Officer commented: ‘The award shows just how far the club has come in a short period of time. They go about things the right way, ensuring that child welfare and quality coaching is a top priority and they are being rewarded with more players joining there ranks’.

Barry Woodburn, Link4Life club development officer added: ‘Rugby League is going strong within the borough. Rochdale Mayfield were recently awarded the first Springboard Gold Plus in any sport within the borough and I know the Hornets are going strong as well. The Cobras are a really proactive club and with the two new community coaches coming on board, I am sure all clubs within the borough will prosper’.

Tony Dawson, Milnrow Cobras Chairman confirmed: ‘We have seen a massive growth over the last year, growing from one and a half boys teams to 4 teams, including girls teams. The Clubmark process helped us to highlight the way in which a club should be working and we want to keep up these standards year on year so we can grow as a club and be viewed on the same level as other clubs within the borough’.
