Rochdale Premier Cricket League Round Up

Date published: 15 December 2009

There was another exiting week in the Rochdale Premier Cricket League as the competition reached the halfway stage. The top three, Max XI, RYCC and Stoney Stars, kept hold of their top spots.

The first match of the day was between RYCC and Lahore Greens. RYCC invited Lahore Greens to bat first. Lahore Greens scored 98 runs in their allotted eight overs with good hitting from Shakeel, 37 runs, and Naveed, 18 runs. None of the other batsman survived for long against good bowling attack of Qaiser, 2 wickets for 8 runs, Quyyom, 1 wicket for 6 runs, and Tayab, 2 overs for 16 runs.

In response RYCC lost one of their openers in the first over but a confident start from Shakeel, 23 runs, and Quyyom, 12 runs (not out), steadied the ship. Excellent hitting from Siddique saw them home with two overs to spare. Tayab of RYCC was declared man of the match for his excellent two overs.

The second game of the day was between Suli XI and Baba XI. Suli XI won the toss and elected to bat. It was a good start from the captain Jameel, 23 runs, Rizwan, 29 runs (not out), and Faisal, 7 runs. Dastaghir of Baba XI bowled really well and took 2 wickets for 4 runs. Suli Xi managed to score 87 runs.

It was not a good start from Baba XI, losing Tayab to the first ball of the innings, but sensible batting from Dastaghir and Shahid guided them home with two overs to spare. Dastaghir was Man of the match for his 30 runs (not out) and 2 wickets for 4 runs.

The next match was between Unique and Stoney Stars. Unique won the toss and elected to bat. It was not a very good start from Unique as they lost their big hitter Afridi to the very first ball of the match. Gufran, 13 runs, and Mo, 14 runs, steadied the innings and they were joined by Noman, 19 runs. Unique managed to score 108 runs.

It was a shaky start from Stoney Stars, losing both of their openers within two overs. Good batting displays from Saif, 27 runs, and Wasim, 19 runs, gave them hope but they lost their wickets in a quick succession with a good bowling effort from Mo, 2 wickets for 9 runs. Captain Shakir played a mature innings and won the match in the last over. Saif was declared man of the match for his 27 runs.

The fourth match of the day was between Max XI and Rochdalians. Max XI won the toss and elected to bat. It was a slow start from Max XI, mainly due to good bowling from Khan and Faisal, but later on some good hitting from Rashid 30 runs and Sultan 21 runs provided a momentum to their innings. Max XI scored 100 runs.

There was a good response from Rochdalians, Malik scoring 27 runs, Khan 17 runs and Usman 17 runs but they were unable to see them home. Rochdalians lost the match by 4 runs. Abdul Rehman was declared man of the match for his 8 runs (not out) and 1 wicket for 21 runs.

The last match of the day was between Young Muslims and All Stars. Again Young Muslims failed to turn up and 2 points were awarded to All Stars.

Thanks again to all the volunteers for helping with umpiring and scoring duties.
