Hornets appoint Stankevitch as head coach
Date published: 26 October 2009
Following the sacking of Darren Shaw last week, Hornets have moved quickly to appoint a new head coach.
Former St Helens players and Doncaster and Widnes assistant coach John Stankevitch has taken up the role with immediate effect.
Mike Banks, Hornets chief executive, who worked with Stankevitch at Widnes, said: " We had lots of applications for the post of head coach which is very pleasing as it shows Rochdale Hornets is still held in high regard within rugby league.
"I have worked with John at Widnes and have been impressed with his enthusiasm and knowledge of the game.
"John has bought into the vision for the future of Rochdale Hornets which we all share.
"He did exceptionally well in his time at Widnes as assistant first team coach and was appointed caretaker coach for five games in which he showed genuine promise as an up and coming young coach.
The Hornets are now in a position to kick on, both on and off the field, and there is a great buzz about the club.”
Hornets chairman Mark Wynn said that the club will be announcing further additions to the coaching set up and new players this week.
