Hornets coach fired
Date published: 19 October 2009
Hornets have parted company with coach Darren Shaw following an internal investigation at the club.
News broke last week that Shaw had been suspended from his duties. Hornets have now confirmed his departure and have started the recruitment process to find a replacement.
The club has refused to comment on the exact reasons for the termination of Shaw's employment.
Club chairman Mark Wynn said: "It is with great regret that Hornets Rugby League have parted company with Head Coach Darren Shaw. The club would like to thank Darren for all his efforts over the last few seasons and wish him all the best for the future."
Hornets President Paul Ormerod said: "I know that many fans are wondering about why Darren Shaw has left the club. I have spoken at considerable length to Mark Wynn, the chairman, and Mike Banks, our Chief Executive, about this. I am completely satisfied that there are very good reasons for Darren leaving and I support the actions they have taken.
"In employment related matters such as this, it is not usual for either party to make comments. I realise that this can lead to all sorts of speculation, but it is a standard practice which is in the best interests of all concerned.
"I understand there has already been considerable interest in the position, and I expect it to be filled with a high quality candidate very soon."
Hornets are now actively recruiting for the post of head coach and anyone who would like to apply for the post should contact the club at Spotland Stadium, Sandy Lane, OL11 5DR.
