Cheadle Town 2 Rochdale Town 1
Date published: 12 October 2009
Rochdale Town are without a win from their opening ten games in Division One of the Vodkat League.
Their latest set-back, a 2-1 reverse at Cheadle, means they have just three points to their name and lie second bottom of the league.
Despite the result, Town put in another good performance and hopes are high that the first win is just around the corner.
Both sides played some good football early on and Rochdale came close when Kerim Alan forced a good save from home goalkeeper O'Keefe, while another attack saw James Greenhalgh shoot just wide.
Cheadle fought back and were well on top by the time they opened the scoring on 26 minutes, Lindon beating two defenders before unleashing an unstoppable shot beyond Mark Canning.
Rochdale pushed for an equaliser but couldn't find one before half time despite going close through Gary Nolan and Alan once more.
The visitors started the second half brightly but squandered chances before falling further behind on the hour, a deep cross finding Yoffe at the back post who headed home.
Rochdale left gaps at the back to go three up front, and the gamble almost earned them a point. A perfect Greenhalgh cross was headed into the net by Alan and there was still 20 minutes to find an equaliser. The visitors applied constant pressure to the Cheadle goal, but the home side defended strongly and held out for the win.
