Rochdale Town 0 Daisy Hill 1
Date published: 05 October 2009
Rochdale Town were knocked out of the Lancashire FA Cooperative Trophy in the first round despite bombarding the Daisy Hill goal for ninety minutes.
A young Town side produced what was probably their best display of the season but somehow couldn't find the net, while Daisy Hill scored the only goal of the game from a rare attack.
Town created chance after chance. On four occasions within the first half hour of the game they had squandered opportunities from within the six yard box, while Daisy Hill's Gregory scored from an almost impossible angle to give the visitors the lead.
Town continued to play attractive football but couldn't find a way past Thomas in the Daisy Hill goal, who made fine saves Gary Nolan, Carl Taylor and Kerim Alan.
Town continued to press in the second half but an equaliser just wouldn't come. Blake Roberts had a golden chance to bring Town level when he went clear on goal but fired wide and that was as close as they got in a game that they should have won comfortably.
