Rochdale Town 3 Stone Dominoes 5

Date published: 28 September 2009

Rochdale Town are still without a win all season but a much improved performance against unbeaten Stone Dominoes gives them hope that the elusive victory might be just around the corner.

Liam Ratcliffe's brace had Town two goals up within the opening couple of minutes. Ratcliffe opened the scoring when he latched onto a corner and forced the ball home through a crowd of players.

A superb move just a couple of minutes later ended with Ratcliffe finding a corner with an excellent shot from the edge of the Dominoes box.

Town continued to press, and could have gone further ahead, but some naiive defending from the young outfit allowed Stone back into the game before half time as Karl Charlton and Simon Eldershaw connected with back post crosses to restore parity before half time.

The visitors had the lead ten minutes into the second half when Eldershaw nodded a cross beyond Mark Canning.

Town had the perfect opportunity to draw level when Ratcliffe was hacked down in the box but Karl Taylor's spot kick was superbly kept out.

Town paid the ultimate price as Mat Bradbury scored a superb goal from fully 35 yards out.

The home side never gave up and pulled a goal back through Gary Nolan. A revitalised Town pushed for a leveller but the game was killed late on as Danny Brown hit Stone's fifth.

Still Town pushed on and twice the woodwork, and visiting goalkeeper Danny Roberts, denied them something from a superb game.
