More support for Rugby League

Date published: 25 September 2009

Community clubs, schools and everyone involved in rugby league in Rochdale are set to receive more support following the full time appointment of a Rugby League Development Officer.

Joint funding from Bury and Bolton council, Link4Life (Rochdale's Sport, Leisure and Culture Trust) and the Rugby Football League have secured a three year, full time position for the region with the broad remit of developing the game across the three local authorities.

Ryan Bradley has moved across the Pennines from his previous role as Yorkshire Volunteer Coordinator to take on the post.

Mr Bradley said: "I am looking forward to meeting everyone currently involved in the game over the coming months and driving Rugby League forward within the regions. Rochdale as a borough is steeped with rugby league history and is a real sleeping giant. I am really looking forward to supporting everybody involved in whatever capacity I can."

Mr Bradley said he is looking to meet all of the clubs within the region over the coming month and coordinate a strategy for developing the game at all levels.

As well as a full time Development Officer, Bolton, Bury and Rochdale are also set to benefit as a ‘League For All’ officer has recently come into post, with the remit of delivering non traditional versions of the sport to various groups across the region. Paul Scanlon-Wells will be delivering touch, tag and master’s rugby league across Greater Manchester, ensuring that anybody can get involved in the game of rugby league.

To find out more about either of these roles, please feel free to contact Mr Bradley via email to ryan.bradley@rfl.uk.com or via the phone on 07807 510350.
