Spotland hosts internationals

Spotland Stadium, home of Rochdale football club, is to host two international matches within the next week.

England Women's under 19's side will take to the Spotland turf for two of their UEFA European Women's U19 Championship qualifying round matches.

The first game kicks off at 4pm tomorrow (Saturday 19 September) against Belarus before completing their group games against Norway at Spotland on Thursday evening (24 September).

The England side are the current holders of the European Championship after winning the tournament in Belarus earlier this summer. They will be hoping to make a swift return to the Finals, which will be held in Macedonia. The top two nations in England's qualifying group will go through to the Elite Qualifying Round, to be held next year.

England's coach Mo Marley said: "It’s great that we're hosting these matches.

"It’s been a while since we’ve played in England so it’s good to be back on home soil. It’ll be nice for the players’ families and friends and people in the local region to see these players perform, especially after the success in Belarus."
