Clubs likely to resist change

The structure of the Lake Garage CLL is likely to remain the same – at least for the foreseeable future – following a steering committee investigation into ways of taking the league forward.

Concerns over the large number of matches played during the season prompted the formation of the committee.

It was felt that 30 league fixtures, John Willie Lees Wood Cup matches, Lancashire Cup games and Inter-League Competition ties were placing too much demand on member clubs.

Adverse weather only added to the problems, so ways to reduce the fixture list were looked at.

These included the formation of two sections of eight clubs whereby members of each would play each other once, producing 14 matches.

Then teams from each section would face clubs from the opposite section once to provide a further seven fixtures, taking the total to 21.

However, the initial reaction to this suggestion has been cool and, along with other ideas put forward by the steering committee, will be voted on by CLL delegates at their next monthly meeting at Middleton CC on Friday 2 October.
