Swarm perform

Rochdale Swarm produced probably their best ever performance at the West Leeds Rugby League Festival.

As part of a day long promotion of rugby league, which saw games of tag, women's and girls, masters and full contact rugby league, the Swarm played the Leeds Lost Loiners in a Tag Merit League Fixture.

Played before a healthy crowd of interested onlookers the Swarm had a text book opening half an hour, scoring 6 unanswered tries with the Leeds side unable to gain any ground against the Swarm defence.

The Swarm opened up with Matt Gormley scoring the first of his 6 tries with some elusive footwork, on the back of some fine approach play.

The Swarm continued to pressure the Leeds outfit with Matt Fallows, continuing his recent run of excellent form, scoring followed by veteran Mark Wynn.

Dave Tyson was next to cross the whitewash after a break from Adam Bates.

The Yorkshire outfit rallied a little but their plan of trying to out flank the Swarm proved not to work thanks to some try saving "tags" from Gaynor Ramsbottom and Emily Wynn.

Coach Dave Ramsbottom then led the charge supplying the pass for Gormley to score the again, followed again by Wynn and Fallows.

The Swarm tired a little as they had only took a bare squad due to work commitments, and with only one sub everyone had to work extra hard against a team with several extra players.

Despite a late rally by the Loiners, the Swarm held on for a comfortable 12-6 victory with the Leeds team making Matt Gormley the Man of the Match.

The Swarm has a weekend off this week due to the Challenge Cup Final but they return to action against another Leeds team, The Rawdon Rhinos on 5 September.
