Perkins seaks move

Former Rochdale midfielder David Perkins is seaking a move away from Colchester United, the club he joined from Dale last summer.

Perkins has handed in an official transfer request after failing to settle in the South East.

Colchester chief executive Steve Bradshaw told the club's official website: "Whilst David has really appreciated the opportunity to come to Colchester United and likes playing football here, he has found it very difficult to settle in the south of England and therefore has submitted a formal transfer request."

The midfielder led Dale to the League Two play-off final in his only full season at Spotland, but cruelly had to miss out on a Wembley appearance after he was sent off in the second leg of the semi-final against Darlington.

Any club interested in Perkins' services would have to compensate Colchester, who paid Dale a six-figure fee last summer.

Mr Bradshaw continued: "He is also absolutely committed to taking every playing opportunity whilst he is here, and we all hope that David is able to settle and can commit to a long-term future at the club."
