Le Fondre signs for Rotherham
Date published: 10 August 2009
The three day saga surrounding Adam Le Fondre's future is over, as Rotherham United announce that he has left Rochdale to sign for the Millers.
The striker will pen a three-year deal with Dale's League Two rivals once he has completed a routine medical.
The fee for Le Fondre has not been disclosed but is expected to be more than £100,000.
He could make his Rotherham debut on Saturday at Bournemouth and his transfer adds extra spice to the next game between Dale and Rotherham, which takes place in less than three weeks time at the Don Valley Stadium.
News of Le Fondre's impending move broke as Dale fans returned from the opening day draw at Port Vale, where Le Fondre came on as a second half substitute. Rotherham announced on their official website that Rochdale had agreed an undisclosed fee for last season's top scorer.
Manager Keith Hill didn't mention anything to do with the impending move in his post match press conference, which took place just yards away from where Le Fondre was joining in the warm down with his team mates.
Rochdale fans feared the worst but the situation changed yesterday afternoon when news broke that Le Fondre had failed to agree personal terms with Rotherham, who enjoyed a late win over Accrington Stanley on opening day.
Then. almost out of nowhere, news spread that a deal between Le Fondre and the Millers was back on the table and this time the striker would agree to sign, ending his three year stay at Spotland.
It is not yet known whether Rochdale manager Keith Hill will be given any of the money from the sale to replenish his squad, along with any cash from the sale of Rickie Lambert from Bristol Rovers to Southampton earlier today, or whether all of the money is needed to pay Dale's debts.
