Heywood power through
Date published: 03 August 2009
It was a night to remember for Heywood as they eased to a nine-wicket win over Werneth in the semi-finals of the John Willie Lees Twenty20 Competition.
Only Alan Durose reached double figures (20) in Werneth’s disappointing 65 for nine, but even he had difficulty on a wicket which played a few tricks.
Tom Hardman took four Werneth wickets – three in his first two overs.
Off-spinner Rob Slawson conceded only 13 runs in four overs. He went on to grab Durose’s wicket, snaffling a caught and bowled chance.
Heywood reached their target in the thirteenth over with the loss of just Tom Hardman for 24.
Heywood will play Clifton – eight-wicket conquerors of Royton – in the final on Saturday 12 September.
The two teams will toss to decide who hosts the match.
