Heywood hope for final
Date published: 17 July 2009
Heywood will be looking to cement their place as the only local side in the final when they take part in the penultimate of the John Willie Lees Twenty20 Competition tonight (6.15).
Tonight they take on Werneth in the semi-finals on the wide expanses of the Crimble ground and they would welcome a showpiece final and the financial gains which go with it.
If they can overcome Werneth tonight they will take on either Royton or Clifton, who also play this evening.
Tomorrow's league programme sees title challengers Heywood and Norden take on Oldham and Royton respectively.
Heywood travel to Oldham only a few weeks after the reigning champions cruised to an eight wicket win at Crimble.
A Heywood side boasting dangerous batsmen such as Bobby Cross, Royce Blight, Tom Hardman and professional Brendan Taylor, will once again be hoping to pile on the runs.
Second-placed Norden entertain a Royton team who had little difficulty in seeing off bottom club Radcliffe last weekend.
Middleton will be hoping for a rare victory when they travel to Werneth.
Tonight (John Willie Lees Twenty20 Competition semi-finals, 6.15 start): Clifton v Royton; Heywood v Werneth.
Tomorrow (1.45pm): Clifton v Walsden; Littleborough v Ashton; Monton and Weaste v Rochdale; Norden v Royton; Oldham v Heywood; Radcliffe v Crompton; Unsworth v Milnrow; Werneth v Middleton.
