Dale travel to Wednesday in Carling Cup

Rory McArdle will play against his former club when Dale travel to Sheffield Wednesday in the first round of the Carling Cup.

Rochdale face a first round trip to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carling Cup following this morning's draw.

The game will take place during the week beginning Monday 10 August.

Dale faced The Owls in 2002/03 in the same competition, the only competitive fixture between the two sides, with Wednesday fortunate to emerge 1-0 victors at Hillsborough.

The tie will bring a return to his former club for Dale defender Rory McArdle, who signed for the club from The Owls two years ago.

If Dale can make it past Wednesday they could face Premiership opposition in the second round, while those top flight sides involved in European competitions do not enter the Carling Cup until the third round.
