Gold for Jackson in Paralympic World Cup

Date published: 22 May 2009

Rochdale cyclist Simon Jackson won a Paralympic World Cup gold medal at the Manchester velodrome yesterday (Thursday 22 May).

Jackson, with his tandem cycling pilot Barney Storey, cruised to victory a second and a half clear of their rivals.

The visually-impaired 36-year old is a former Paralympic judo champion but he was forced to retire from the sport in 2005 due to a back injury.

His gold in Manchester marks his first in tandem cycling, following two silvers in the World Cup last year. Now he is hopeful of gold at London 2012 having been forced out of the Beijing event last year.
