Rugby league: Hunslet 40 - 18 Mayfield

Date published: 11 July 2024

Mayfield were far from their best at Hunslet last weekend (Saturday 6 July) and the opposition sensed this from the off. With less than twenty minutes on the clock Hunslet were showing why they are the current champions as they coasted to a 10 - 0 lead after some woeful defending from Mayfield. The visitors turned it on in patches and and Jordan Parr managed a try and conversion to keep his side in the game, 10-6.

This didn't last though and Hunslet were soon back in control at 16 - 6. Mayfield again kept trying and Dakota Tolhurst pulled another back, converted by Parr, 16-12.

Just before half time though Hunslet had again increased their lead with another poorly defended converted try, 22-12.

Mayfield started the second half strongly but the Hunslet defence held firm until a superb effort from Tolhurst saw him come away with his second, converted by Parr, 22-18.

This was the last score for Mayfield, and Hunslet ran in tries with ease as the scoreboard rattled up to 40-18.

Enforced changes again affected the way Mayfield played this game, it's hard to get into a rhythm and for the players to know what to expect from each other when they are not fielding the same team consistently. When you look at the teams who perform the best it's no coincidence that they are also the teams who have the fewest changes week on week.
