Dale defender George Nevett signs for Peterborough

Date published: 19 June 2024

League One Peterborough United have signed Rochdale AFC’s 18-year-old central defender George Nevett on a four-year contract.

Having made his first team debut in the final home game of 2022/23, Nevett signed his professional contract with Rochdale in July 2023.

He made a total of 34 first team appearances for Dale last season, winning two awards at Dale's end of season awards: Most Improved Young Player of the Season, and Community Trust Player of the Season.

His performances earned him a call up to the Wales U19 squad in October 2023, coming on as a substitute against England U19s. He won a second cap for Wales Under-19s in March this year, playing the full game in a friendly against Belgium.

Dale manager Jim McNulty commented: "George leaves the club with our very best of wishes and we will watch with hope how George develops in the next chapter of his young career with Peterborough United.

"From the moment we started working with George, he has been a pleasure to coach, with a brilliant desire to improve and learn, and a belief in our relationship to provide him with that platform to display his abilities. I’m really happy for him that he managed to secure a move that he and his family feel is the right one for George.

"As with all our graduates who have gone on to further themselves in the football pyramid, we wish him all the very best."
