Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club

Date published: 14 June 2024

On Saturday 8 June, four girls from Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club went to Winsford Flas Sailing Club for another round of the RYA North West Junior Travellers Series. In strong gusty conditions, they shone in the results. Millie Hayfield was not only the leading U16 female sailor but also won overall, with Annabel (also U16) runner up and fourth overall. These two were followed up by Jessica Marsh (U14) and sister Lauren, leading U19 sailor, which were outstanding results for the club's young sailors.

Conditions on Sunday, at Hollingworth Lake were quite different. A variable shifty wind off the Lake Bank shore was difficult to read the patterns to success, with occasional ‘holes’ of flat spots. Overall, Tom Daniels and Ryan Richards in a Merlin Rocket had the best day, winning the second and third races. The first race was won by Richard and Heather Marsh in their RS400, with its higher performance rating, and a runner up spot in the second race. After a busy weekend, they opted not to sail the third race. Martin Brennan, in his Solo, had a couple of second places for third overall.
