Rugby league: Mayfield preview

Date published: 31 May 2024

Mayfield are back in NCL Premier Division action on Saturday (1 June) as they travel to Bradford to face West Bowling.

The Yorkshire side have struggled to adjust to the pace and intensity of the Premier Division this season after taking the First division by storm last year. They only lost three games all season but have found the going tough with the move up in class. Two wins from 11 starts sess them second from bottom with the worst points against record in the top two divisions.

Mayfield will be taking this game very seriously and treating the opposition with the utmost respect, especially after being held to a just a six point victory over third from bottom Thatto Heath a couple of weeks ago. Coaches Sam Butterworth and Steve Wood have had a long injury list to contend with over the last couple of weeks so will delay naming the squad until they have seen everyone in training.

Joe Taira and Sam Wright were still doubtful at the beginning of the week but have improved while Zac Baker, Corey Newsham and Ben Metcalfe are looking like being available for selection. A real coaches headache but one that they are happy to have.
