Hockey: Bowden 6ths 4 - 1 Rochdale Ladies
Date published: 12 December 2023
Daisy Parton was named player of the match
Despite the horrendous wind and rain, Rochdale set to play against Bowdon 6’s away from home on Saturday 9 December.
Bowdon was quick off the mark, making the most of their home advantage and multiple substitutes and ultimately securing two goals in a short space of time.
Although conceding these early goals, Rochdale worked relentlessly within the first half, earning a rebounded goal from Parton and penalty corners that resulted in near misses.
After another close chance for Rochdale - forcing a goal line save by the opposition - the first half ended 2-1, a score line largely influenced by the fantastic saves by Hoyle, who was filling in for keeper.
The second half saw Rochdale more confident, with several runs being made up the right wing by Pickering and Hodcroft resulting in multiple goal chances.
However, without substitutes, Rochdale’s legs grew tired and Bowdon, following a lucky break against the run of play, managed to sneak in another two goals in swift succession in the closing minutes of play.
It’s safe to say Rochdale fought until the end but were unfortunately unable to gain back the score line which ended in 4-1 to Bowdon 6’s.
Players of the match were Daisy Parton and Claire Hoyle.
Captain Collinson said: “What a game. We came out with 11 and no subs against a team who were previously in the division above and played tirelessly.
“To have the other teams captain comment on our wonderful performance was lovely to hear. Well done ladies.”
