Masters veterans commemorate Remembrance Day with annual outing at Rochdale

The veterans rugby fixture
More than 30 military veterans from 16 different Masters rugby clubs travelled to Rochdale on Remembrance weekend for a special game.
With the vast amounts of military veterans within the Masters community, Remembrance Day has been chosen as the main event in the military calendar to be commemorated with a fixture.
38 veterans made the journey to the home of Rochdale Masters and made most of the opportunity to represent all three services in a fixture played in true Masters spirit.
Veterans lead Carl Abraham said: “Without certain individuals these events don’t happen so a special mention goes out to everybody at Rochdale Mayfield for the generous offer in once again hosting the event, Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation for providing funding via the Armed Forces Covenant Fund and Stag Sports, Revilo Automotive, Alexander Khan PLC, Roundel Decorating Services for their continuous support in providing the playing shirts and team wear for our veterans.
“All clothing worn by our veterans is available to purchase via stag-sports.com with a small percentage of the sale price going to a military charity. Together, through shirt sales, sponsors, playing fees and generous donations we raised over £1,200 that will be proudly donated to the Royal British Legion.”
The next planned veterans get together will be its annual fixture to commemorate Armed Forces Day in April 2023. Planning has already commenced with the veterans committee looking to showcase Masters Rugby League on the biggest stage whilst having the opportunity to show support to our Armed Forces community.
If you’re a veteran and want to get involved in any of the get togethers please contact Carl Abraham on carl.abraham@hornetsrugbyleague.com or keep an eye on social media with regular information posted.
