Judo: Medals for Rochdale brothers at North Yorkshire Judo Tournament

Date published: 27 October 2021

Rochdale siblings Andrew and Collin Perez won medals and podium positions at the North Yorkshire Judo Tournament in York on Saturday 23 October.

Andrew, 11, a pupil at Holy Family RC and CE College in Heywood, was awarded gold after competing in the under 34kg category.

His younger brother, Collin, nine, a pupil at St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School in Norden, secured bronze in the under 30kg division.

Andrew has been training in judo for over three years, whilst Collin has been training for just over 18 months.

Dad Carlos said: “They competed against very high-quality opponents and both had tough fights. My wife and I are very happy with their performance and the boys really enjoyed competing again.

“We cannot describe how proud we are of our boys and we can’t thank their coaches at Bacup Judo Club and Judo Excellence Club in Hebden Bridge enough for all the amazing knowledge and skills passed to the boys. They wouldn’t be where they are without their support, and the support of their sponsors, Valor Fightwear and Raine Clothing Ltd.”

The boys, plus their younger brother, Ethan, seven, also train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling and Thai boxing.

The North Yorkshire Judo Tournament took place at the York Railway Institute.
