Rochdale went ahead when Buckley's cross-come-shot looped over Carson.
Will Buckley and Tom Kennedy both scored their first goals at Spotland in the win over Chesterfield on Saturday. Both came from long range, although one was slightly more fortunate than the other.
Buckley opened the scoring on the hour mark from a cross that arced over the Spireites keeper and in at the far post. Kennedy meanwhile struck a measured free kick into the top corner in the fifth minute of injury time.
"Last season I had quite a few goes and none of them were that close to be honest but this season I have had a decent one against Oldham that the keeper saved well and one against Bury that went just wide," said Kennedy. "The lads have been caning me in training saying that I am not having any more but when we got the free kick today I have to say that I fancied it straight away.
"As the delay went on and their lad got himself sent off I fancied it even more and having lined it up it went in.
"Hopefully I can now get a few more. I have been practicing them in training and they have been coming off. I have been trying different techniques. You can try to watch the stars do it but in reality you have to learn and do it yourself and luckily this one did have the dip to get over the wall and go into the net."
Buckley meanwhile admitted that his goal was a fluke. He said: "I didn’t mean the goal but I’ll take that! It was one of those games where it would be something like that which broke the deadlock. It was a frustrating game to play in and I don’t feel we played as well as we can.
"I was brought up playing as a striker but Keith has given me a chance on the wing and I feel I can do a good job out there. I’ve been working a lot in training on my speed work doing drills and match specific training.
"I went on a trial at Accrington a few years back so it’ll be good to go back there next week."
