Rugby League: Rochdale Hornets sign players from Mayfield and Doncaster

Rochdale Hornets have signed two new players for the 2020 season, James Connaughton from Mayfield, and Callum Ogden, from Doncaster.

Connaughton, a front rower was stand out for Mayfield in 2019 and was named man of the match in last season’s pre-season friendly at Mayfield Sports Centre.

The 22-year-old has also toured Serbia with Lancashire, as well as Canada with GB Police.

On signing, Connaughton said: “I’m looking forward to making the transition to a higher level. I’m hoping to make a positive impact for the club in 2020.”

Ogden came through the successful junior set-up at Rochdale Mayfield before joining the Bradford Bulls academy. 

Playing predominantly as a hooker, Ogden knows the League 1 competition having reached the play-off phase last time out. 

Ogden said: “I’m delighted to have signed for my hometown club and am looking forward to playing under Matt Calland again. 

“I can’t wait to rip in with the boys and hopefully have a successful 2020 season.”
