A few of the grateful youngsters with the cheque awarded to the club
Coaches from Queensway ABC were presented with a £5,000 cheque by the Persimmon Homes Building Futures awards at a special gala dinner on Tuesday (8 October).
David Hodkinson and Gareth Pratt were presented with the cheque at York Racecourse, for the outstanding work they carry out developing young people who attend their club.
Both were delighted to receive the cheque, with fellow coaches Tim Pegg and Jordan Saywood also extending their gratitude for the money awarded to the club.
The local boxing club was nominated earlier this year for a share of £1 million from the campaign, which included 95 other finalists.
Head coach David said: “People from around the world were voting daily to support the club. This included current sports stars, tv stars, army regiments, other local boxers and past players from many other sports, all the people associated with the club and their families, for which the club is so grateful.
All were treated to a terrific evening in the presence of many sports stars of the past, current Great British Olympians and a host of executives and directors from Persimmon Homes.
Persimmon Homes Building Futures Campaign included clubs and organisations from all over the country in three categories – Sport, Health, and Education and Arts.
The campaign involved a voting process which was open from February to September and all the members of the club would like to thank everybody who voted for them over the past few months.
Queensway Boxing Club has recently produced national finalists, regional champions, England representatives and many other boxers who are progressing well in their development under the guidance of all the coaching staff.
The club also welcomes all young people who want to simply keep fit in a boxing environment with disciplined sessions and learning new skills.
For anyone wishing to attend any of the Queensway Boxing Sessions, sessions are at the following times:
- Juniors (seven to 14 years): Monday and Wednesday – 5pm-6pm
- Adults: Tuesday – 8pm-9pm
- Adults: Thursday – 7pm-8pm
