Sonny Gilbertson races at Buxton Raceway

Heywood youngster Sonny Gilbertson, aged seven, made his debut at Buxton Raceway on Saturday 6 October.

Steve Hayward, from Leewood Motor Club, said: “Sonny completed all three races, a feat in itself.

“All his family were there to cheer him on.

“He was given a trophy, as were all the youngsters who raced, he hopes the first of many.

“Sonny was the only novice in the races, and he completed all the races on a very, very wet track, no mean feat.”

15 cars raced on the track for 8 laps of the 380 metre oval in identical cars. The youngsters involved were aged 7 to 11.
