Cricket: Norden pick up maximum points at Crompton

Norden picked up maximum points from their JW Lees Lancashire League match at Crompton on Saturday 22 June.

Stags lost opener Joe Humphreys with the total on 18, but Saif Bhojani and Harvey Fitton then laid the base for an eventual total of 202 all out.

The score had gone up to 135 before Fitton was trapped leg before for 59 to become the first of Matthew Hodson’s seven wickets.

Bhojani was on 61 when he was caught by Kain Dean, and this started a mini collapse with Jake Sandham failing to score and Hashum Malik going for four.

More wickets fell in a chase for runs, and of the last eight batsmen on the list only two got into double figures. Josh Tolley scored 25, and Lee Crabtree scored 14.

Chris Humphreys gained an early breakthrough in the reply when he had Stephen Wright caught by Dominic Humphreys for four.

Stand-in professional Mark Cosgrove scored 20 before being stumped by Crabtree, and Jamal, the big danger to Norden, was eventually bowled by Sandham after scoring 66 and suffering an injury.

Simon Wright was best of the rest with his 19. He was bowled by Sandham who finished with four for 37.

With Greg Butterworth taking three for 38 Crompton were bowled out for 144.
