Date published: 18 June 2019

Isobel Kitchen, Jake Brearley and Dave Hulme of Rochdale Judo Club have all been selected for the British Teams Championships taking place in Scotland on Saturday 6 July.

16-year-old Isobel Kitchen from Rochdale Judo Club has climbed the under 57kg rankings to become Great Britain's number one cadet.

During the course of 2019 Isobel has won gold at the English, Scottish and Irish open tournaments and has a chance of the full set at the Welsh open and British Championships towards the end of the year.

In the European competitions she achieved wins in Germany, Spain and most recently, Portugal where she won four out of six fights to earn a credible 7th place out of 45 entrants.

Isobel has also been selected by GBR for the upcoming European Championships in Warsaw at the end of June.

Louise Kitchen, Isobel's mum said: “Both Isobel and her coach Andy Merchant 5th Dan, are hoping that she will also be selected for the Youth Olympics in Baku at the end of July as well as a potential selection to the GB Futures training camp in Japan at the beginning of October.”

In December 2018 Isobel won silver and Jake Brearley won bronze in the British Championships and moved up a weight.
