Cricket: Saturday washout for Heywood and Sunday defeat for thirds

Date published: 01 May 2019

Heywood Cricket Club teams endured a miserable weekend in the Greater Manchester Cricket League.

The 1st X1 and 2nd X1 both had their Saturday fixtures washed out, at Moorside and at home to Werneth respectively.

And on Sunday a 3rd X1 containing several of the club’s younger players were thrashed at home to Greenmount.

Dan Stevens made 145 for the visitors out of 236-2 from their 40 overs, and Heywood slumped to 24 all out in reply.

The coming weekend sees the senior side play their first home game, on Saturday, against Glossop in Division 1A (1pm).

Sunday, they make the trip to Whalley Range for a first round Derek Kay 1st X1 Cup fixture (1pm).

The second team face a Saturday trip to Saddleworth CC in Division 3 East (1.30pm). And the third team on Sunday make the short trip to Bamford Fieldhouse for a Sunday Division B game (2pm).
